This intensive Level 5 Diploma in Fashion Design has been designed to mould and shape the successful designers of tomorrow!  Study every aspect of the contemporary industry in-depth, across the following 11 modules:

Module 1 - Fashion Design: Introduction

The introductory module examines the objectives and functions of the global fashion industry, while exploring the evolution of fashion design and its recent history.  Some of the most important fashion trends of the 19th and 20th centuries are discussed, along with the industry’s role in both forecasting and engineering the next big fashion movements.

Module 2 - Features of the Design

A selection of essential garment features are explored in the second module, which introduces a variety of typical garments and breaks down their core features respectively.  Candidates begin to build an understanding of the mechanics of fashion design and the contributory functions of a garment’s component features.

Module 3 - Designing Elements

The four most important elements that apply to all aspects of fashion design are examined in the third module - Colours, Shapes, Lines and Textures.  Learners study the individual impact and effects of each element individually and as part of a cohesive design, touching upon the importance of harmony.

Module 4 - Principles of Art & Design

In module four, learners are introduced to a selection of essential art and design principles that apply in the field of fashion design.  Candidates learn how to work strategically with Emphasis, Balance, Harmony and Repetition in design, in order to create garments that are both cohesive and a reflection of the designer’s unique aesthetic.

Module 5 - Essentials of Dress Designing

A fascinating introduction to the basics of dress design follows in module five, which presents candidates with a detailed breakdown of the design process and introduces several helpful tools for more effective dress designing.  The various different types of dresses and their respective characteristics are also discussed.

Module 6 - Essentials of Dress Designing & Colour Selection

A continuation of the prior module, candidates continue studying dress designing in module six with a detailed exploration of colour selection.  The importance of cohesiveness and avoiding clashes when working with colours is discussed, along with how any given combination of colours can affect the appeal and interpretation of the entire garment.

Module 7 - Steps of the Design Process

In module seven, candidates are presented with a detailed overview of each of the component stages of the complete fashion design process.  The benefits of approaching fashion design in a structured manner are discussed, guiding candidates through the process from initial creative vision through to final production and editing of the garment.

Module 8 - Essentials for Fashion-Sketching

Candidates are then provided with a helpful fashion sketching tutorial, which examines some of the tools and resources that can simplify the fashion sketching process.  The importance of producing detailed sketches that clearly communicate design elements and details to other designers is also discussed.

Module 9 - Creating and Applying Patterns

Module nine explores the often-challenging process of both creating and working with patterns as a fashion designer.  The complexities of combining multiple patterns into one cohesive garment are examined, along with key considerations when creating patterns from scratch in accordance with the requirements of the garment/wearer.

Module 10 - Essentials of Sewing (i)

Ideal for newcomers, module 10 provides a crash-course introduction to the essential sewing skills needed to get into fashion design.  Some of the most common tools, accessories and resources used in professional sewing are examined, along with several basic hand-sewing techniques - including seam sewing.

Module 11 - Essentials of Sewing (ii)

The helpful sewing tutorial continues into module 11, which moves onto the process of planning and carrying out alterations and garment repairs.  Candidates also explore the challenges posed by different materials and garment types, when sewing details and performing alterations.
