Module 1 - Introduction to Interior Design
The course begins with a detailed exploration of the interior design industry, exploring its mechanics, functions and primary objectives. The responsibilities of the interior design professional are introduced, along with the basics of residential design, the importance of effective customer relations and how to work cohesively with third-party vendors and suppliers.
Module 2 - The Principles of Interior Designing
Module two brings the core principles of successful interior design into discussion, in which candidates examine the concepts of Contrast, Balance, Scale, Proportion, Unity, Variety and Emphasis. These primary principles of design are considered as independent concepts and as contributory factors in effective interior design.
Module 3 - Design Elements
Learners are then presented with four key design elements that must be considered when working on interiors - Space, Colour, Patterns and Textures. The importance of taking a structured approach to interior design is also discussed.
Module 4 - Materials and Room Elements
A series of important ‘physical’ room elements and their characteristics are explored in the fourth module. Examples of which include furniture, fixtures, lighting, wallcoverings, floor coverings and artwork - each of which is considered by way of its contribution to the final result and the functional role it plays in the room.
Module 5 - Room by Room Designing
In module five, the benefits of approaching interior design on a room-by-room basis are explored. Candidates also discuss the importance of thoroughly planning every stage of the interior design project, along with how and why the ‘bigger picture’ should be considered at all times.
Module 6 - Client-Designer Relationship Management
An introduction to customer relationship management follows in module six, in which candidates learn how to provide professional consultations and identify clients’ requirements. The importance of creating a detailed vision for the final project is also discussed, along with helpful tips and techniques for consistently exceeding expectations.
Module 7 - Strategic Planning Essentials
A more detailed introduction to strategic planning follows in module seven, which provides a step-by-step breakdown of the project planning process. Various tools and resources to assist with successful project planning are introduced, along with the potential consequences of substandard planning in interior design.
Module 8 - The Stages of a Design Project
The eighth module takes a closer look at each individual stage within the interior design project, along with its functions and importance as part of a whole. Learners examine the art of effective project planning, project implementation, supervision and optimisation, project completion, analysis of completed projects and how to collect clients’ feedback.
Module 9 - Starting a Successful Interior Design Business
Bringing the course to a close, the ninth module is aimed at candidates interested in setting up their own businesses. The advantages of entrepreneurship in the field of interior design are discussed, along with how to effectively market an interior design business, target audience identification tips and the cornerstones of successful business establishment.
Completion of this course will instil you with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed take your career to the next level.
